Gabriel has developed many unique glass blowing techniques for working borosilicate glass on a torch in the warm glass studio. Borosilicate is one of the most durable and heat resistant glass types in the world. Gabriel's work explores techniqes for mounting glass to wood and use of original wood and graphite moulds.
This video demonstrates the technique used at Custom Carving for making knobs and handles from borosilicate glass on a torch. We make all the handles for our furnishings and sell the handles seperately for those who want to an inspiring touch to furniture, the kitchen, or other spaces. Each handle is made indivually on a threaded pole with seperation material. Original graphite moulds assure a consistant product. The handle is annealed additionally in the kiln, cooled, and threaded off the pole. The glass handle is then rethreaded permanently with 2 part epoxy to a smaller threaded pole suitable for the thickness of the door. The knobs can be countersunk into the doors for the best flow between the wood and glass. A rubber washer is inset and cannot be seen, which buffers the tight fit of the glass handle against the front of the door, and capped nut tightens further from behind.

Gabriel uses the same technique as described above to create removable borosilicate glass fittings for menorahs, suitable for oil or candles. Borosilicate is one of the most heat resistant glass in the world, and after proper annealing, these fitting should never crack from use. If for whatever reason they should become damaged, they are easily replacable and can be easily removed for cleaning. This exciting video shows Gabriel blowing the menorah fittings with the assistance of handmade original graphite moulds.
