Custom Carving

Handcarved Custom Woodwork by Gabriel Bass

Israeli Wood

We use a variety of local Israeli wood, either in sculpture, lighting, or detail work. Because it receives little rain, the grain are incredibly close and the wood extremely strong.

Olive Wood

olivewood

Israeli-Syrian Olive wood is some of the most prized woods in the world for its exotic contrasting grain structure. A beautiful wood for inlays, carving applies, and small unique products. The Custom Carving workshop is located in the Jerusalem Hills, at 3000 meters just outside the city, where orchards of Olive trees have been growing for thousands of years. We collect these ancient logs using environmentally friendly methods. They are milled on site, then carefully cured in the studio for years before use. This video details the milling process, which brings us from the field to beautiful useful planks.

Other Israeli Woods

Dovetail

All of the woods that we aquire locally are milled in the studio or cut up and used for lathe work. They are carefully cured, by sealing the end grain and storing in flat, dry space for years before use. Some of these woods include: Brosh, which is a very nice cypress (carving and lathe), massive ancient grape vines (abstract shapes), and pine (moulds, lathe, general carpentry).
