Custom CarvingHandcarved Custom Woodwork by Gabriel Bass |
Artist's Background & MissionGabriel Bass designs and handcrafts custom woodwork for synagogues and homes. Gabriel received his BA from Hampshire College in Massachusetts with a focus on cultural preservation through the arts. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, Gabriel was surrounded by a rich Jewish identity and an intrigue of the accomplished local native artistry. His interests led him to aprentice with master totem pole carver Richard Campbell on the Musqueam Reserve and fine interior carpenter Gabriel Bar-Lev in Vancouver, BC. He then spent two years conducting research in Spain and the United States pertaining to his thesis, which explored the development of Jewish thought and architecture in Medieval Spain. He finds Jewish art to be the most significant teaching tradition Jews employ to explore and pass down their cultural and religious identity. Gabriel has continued his arts education at the Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle, WA and the Bezalel Academy for Design in Jerusalem. His work can be found in reputable synagogues, museums, and private collections around the United States and Israel. Gabriel continues in the Jewish tradition of hiddur-mitzvah, beautifying the commandments, and offers his clients the opportunity to custom design any solid wood or glass project to suit their needs. Gabriel prides his work on the use of high quality materials, joinery, and attention to detail. All the work of Custom Carving is produced by an intimate team of skilled Jewish workers. All precision, detail and carving work is completed by the artist himself. For more information, photos, or custom work orders please contact Gabriel directly. |
